Where to eat in Chotila: a guide to the best local food

After the climb to Chamunda Mata Temple, the first question every family asks is the same: where do we eat? Chotila is a highway town, and its food is shaped by the travellers, drivers and pilgrims who stop here every day.

What to eat in Chotila

This is Kathiawadi country. The cooking is bold and simple: bajra, garlic, chilli, buttermilk and ghee. It is at its best fresh off the stove.

  • Gujarati thali: dal, kadhi, two or three shaak, rotli, rice and something sweet, refilled until you stop.
  • Bajra no rotlo with white butter, jaggery and lasan chutney.
  • Sev tameta and baingan no olo, the two Kathiawadi dishes worth ordering first.
  • Fafda, poha and thepla for an early breakfast after darshan.
  • Chaas, with everything.

Eating with family or a group

Pilgrimage groups and large families need space and a menu that suits everyone. At Akash Restaurant, the A/C family hall seats larger groups, and alongside Gujarati and Kathiawadi food we serve Punjabi, Chinese and South Indian dishes for those who want something else. Give us a few hours' notice for a big group and the thali will be ready when you walk in.

Jain and special diets

Jain preparations are available on request. Tell us when you order, or mention it in your enquiry if you are staying with us.
